The Illusionist

Yesterday we had Neil Burger come to Google and show us a preview of his new movie The Illusionist. It is loosly based on Steven Millhauser's short story Eisenheim the Illusionist. It was pretty cool, if not somewhat predictible. As always, Edward Norton was amazingly awesome. The movie was done in a kind of old-style way that really enhanced its setting in 19th century Vienna. The whole story was told from the point of view of Paul Giamatti's Chief Inspector Uhl, which allowed Norton's character to remain a bit distant, yet still amazingly awesome. Sigh. Why can't I be Edward Norton? Anyway, I recommend it, though not terribly highly. I did enjoy watching it, and would watch it again, but it didn't blow me away or anything - the predictible plot hurt it a bit, even if it was fun.
